A Rebus.
Take the name of a man, who upon his own pate,
Hath drawn down the curses of every state;
Especially those of Connecticut, where
His Vesuvian terrors old women did scare;
And the name of an ominous bird of the night,
Whose dolorous notes does the traveller fright;
. . . [6 more lines]
And also the name of a tune often played,
By New-England fifers upon the parade;
When Britons to Lexington dar'd to advance,
This tune (twenty miles) they did back again dance.
. . . [4 more lines, signed] S.D.  Kingston August 23, 1779.
